PT-141

Most approaches to low libido work on blood flow. PT-141 works somewhere else entirely. Also known as bremelanotide, it is a melanocortin receptor agonist that acts on pathways in the brain associated with sexual desire and arousal, rather than on the vascular system. That distinction is the whole point: it means PT-141 is used in both men and women, and that it engages desire itself rather than the mechanics downstream of it. Dosing is as-needed rather than daily, and every protocol is physician-reviewed from consultation through completion.

Supports libido, arousal, and sexual desire through central nervous system pathways.

  • Works through melanocortin receptor activation in the brain, not vascular dilation
  • Used in both men and women
  • Dosed as needed rather than on a daily schedule
  • Does not require an ongoing cycle to remain available for use
  • Physician-reviewed screening before your first dose

Nausea, flushing, and headache are the most commonly reported effects and typically occur within the first hour. Transient increases in blood pressure and decreases in heart rate have been observed, so PT-141 is not appropriate for individuals with uncontrolled hypertension or known cardiovascular disease. Not for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Do not exceed one dose in any 24-hour period. Your provider will review your blood pressure and cardiovascular history before prescribing.

As-needed dosing. Administered approximately 45 minutes before anticipated activity. No more than one dose in a 24-hour period, and no more than eight doses in a month. There is no fixed cycle length — your provider will set your dose and frequency limits at consultation.

Subcutaneous injection near the lower abdomen or outer thigh. Use sterile technique. Rotate injection sites.

PT-141 is a synthetic analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It binds melanocortin receptors — primarily MC3R and MC4R — concentrated in the hypothalamus, a region involved in the neural circuitry associated with sexual motivation. Because the mechanism is central rather than vascular, PT-141 operates upstream of the blood-flow pathway targeted by more familiar treatments and does not depend on it. This is also why it is studied in both men and women, where vascular-acting compounds are largely limited to one.

Bremelanotide is one of the few peptides in the wellness category with controlled human trial data behind it. It has been studied in randomized, placebo-controlled trials in both women and men, and its central mechanism — melanocortin receptor activation rather than vascular action — is well characterized in the literature. Those trials also produced the safety profile described above: nausea as the most common effect, and transient blood pressure changes as the reason cardiovascular screening is required. It is worth being clear about what that evidence does and does not cover. The trial data supports the mechanism and the tolerability profile in screened patients; it does not mean every patient responds the same way, and it is not a substitute for a clinical evaluation. That is why PT-141 at Pure Hydration begins with a provider consultation rather than a form.

What is PT-141?

PT-141, also called bremelanotide, is a synthetic analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. It activates melanocortin receptors in the brain that are involved in sexual desire and arousal. It is one of the few peptides in this category studied in controlled human trials.

How is PT-141 different from ED medications?

ED medications work on blood flow. PT-141 works in the central nervous system, on the pathways associated with desire itself. That is why it is used in both women and men, and why it can be relevant when the issue is interest rather than mechanics.

How is PT-141 dosed?

As needed, about 45 minutes before anticipated activity. No more than one dose in 24 hours and no more than eight doses a month. Your provider sets your dose and limits at consultation. There is no fixed cycle.

Who should not use PT-141?

Anyone with uncontrolled high blood pressure or known cardiovascular disease, and anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding. Because PT-141 can transiently raise blood pressure, your provider reviews your cardiovascular history before prescribing.

How do I start PT-141 with Pure Hydration?

Book a consultation. A licensed provider reviews your history and blood pressure, and if PT-141 is appropriate, your protocol ships directly to you anywhere in the U.S. with dosing instructions and supplies.
